Managing Medication Side Effects

because they happen, but that's not a reason to avoid a proven treatment

Medications are the primary treatment for ADHD for school age children through adults, but they can lead to side effects, which can lead to stopping treatment.

As a pediatrician, I work with families to find the best treatments for the troublesome symptoms of ADHD. For many, this means medications. But despite all of their benefits, medications come with side effects.

The risk of not adequately treating ADHD is real, so learning how to manage the side effects of medications is important. There often isn’t enough time in an office visit to cover all the potential things to be done to help manage medication side effects, so an hour will be devoted to these issues in my August ADHDKCTeen talk.

In this talk, middle and high school students (and their parents) will learn:

  • the most common side effects of medications

  • actionable steps to take for each of the most common side effects for better tolerance

  • tracking tools to help identify side effects and share with your prescriber
